Despite the fact that I know consistency in praying for my children is important, I’ve oft had trouble following through. The demands of school, housework, and other needs seem to overshadow the quiet task of stopping, quieting my heart, and praying.
The good news is that praying for our kids can happen more consistently with a few small tweaks.
Here are a few tools I’ve used recently to keep praying for my kids at the top of my to do list. Pick one or two and give them a try this month:
- Ask the Lord to remind you. God loves to commune with us and this is a prayer I’ve seen Him faithfully answer. Be sure to heed the Spirit’s nudge when you sense it and stop to pray.
- Set an alarm. I have a friend who sets her alarm at 2:00 every day to remind her to pray for her children. This is so simple, but so effective.
- Include others. I was with this friend recently at 2:00 – we prayed together – and it deeply encouraged me to do the same, even when I wasn’t with her. She actually has a group of moms who all stop at 2:00 each day to pray for their children – maybe you could ask a group of friends to do the same.
- Combine prayer with a pre-established routine. I take medicine every day at 9:00 and 2:00. My friend’s consistent prayer time helped me realize that I could simply add praying for my kids each day at medicine time. It’s an alarm that already sounds, so why not use one routine to encourage another.
- Put it on the daily planner. I use this planner and writing down that priority, helps keep it in front of me daily and heightens the chance that I will do it.
- Don’t waste your life on Facebook. Use that time to pray! Join us on Facebook or Instagram for the rest of November 2024 to get a daily word and prompt to pray for your children. Even if November 2024 is passed, you’ll still find a month’s worth of posts and prompts for praying, just look for November 2024.
- Put it on the calendar. Download our Daily Praying for your Kids Calendar and use it every month of the year to encourage you to pray.
